Facts
Acne is a skin disease that occurs mainly in
adolescence, 85% of cases are teenagers but the acne
often persists during the adulthood.
Acne affects a large proportion of the population at some point
in their lives but there is no way to calculate how long it
will take to disappear completely.
Acne is mainly caused by the body's response to large amounts
of hormones (testosterone) androgens, in common bacteria and
allergies to various foods.
The most common form of acne is "Acne Vulgaris" which means
"common acne", most people suffer from this type of acne.
The face and upper neck are affected more often, but the back,
the chest and shoulders are also influenced.
Despite the permanent scars acne affects more psychology and
self-respect and according to a survey cause depression and can
cause suicide attempts.
Myths
Acne
is not caused by dirt. The common belief that a black
pimple is dirt that has been trapped in the skin is
completely unrealistic. In fact it is not dirt but
keratin.
Common
myths say that masturbation causes acne and that acne
disappears when the person has sexual contact or total
abstinence.
In fact no research has supported this
myth.
